The Mayadevi Temple (The Sacred Birth-Place)

The holi site witnessed the construction of Mayadevi Temple. The famous Mayadevi stone sculpture, known as the nativity Sculpture was installed here in 4th centure A.D.

The single most important spot at Lumbini is the stone slab located deep in the Sanctum-Sanctorum.Revealed after hard and meticulous excavetions under the three layers of ruins on the site of a Mayadevi temple, the stone slab foundation pin-points the precies location of the original place, This spot being the most sensitive, proper coservation and exposition required to allow pilgrim/visitors to observe in situ the Marker stone here.

The exact spot of Buddha's birth was developed in a worship place by providing a brick platform and circumambulatory path to the shrine as early as 3rd century BC. Devotees visiting the site continued their efforts in maintaining the sanctum of the holy place by repairing and served in the form of the Mayadevi temple.

Ground floor and the upper floor consist remains of the foundation of the early temple and an open meditation platform respectively. Stupa-dome and shining pinnacle are also contained at the superstructure of the temple

Lumbini the birth place of th lord Buddha

From the Buddhist literature describes that in the 6th centure BC the Lumbini as a pradimoksha vana which was the sin free grove of sal trees and the lots of beautiful flowers with five kinds of bees. It was compared with the chittalata, the heaven paradise of god Indra. it was between the Shakya's and the Koliya's Devadaha or Ramagram. People from both of the kingdoms using the garden for the rest or spend night.

This garden was named by the beatiful queen of king Anjana whose name is Lumbini devi or Rupa devi or Rummindei (Mishra 36:1996) Later, Rummindei was pronounced as Lumbini. The name is practically identical with Lumbini or Lumimi, written in the inscription in Magadhi language, in which medial or initial 'r' of Sanskrit is always replaced by 'l' (Mukharji 6:1969)

Fa-Hien gives the name of the garden as Lumini, the king's park while Hium Tsiang called it La-fa-ni.

Temple in Nepal

Nepal is very reach country for temple, every step we can found small or big temple, many types temple you can find over here, Shikhar, stupa pagoda are main types but the pagoda type of temple is the only found in Nepal. Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Patan this three places are very much important for this, which was developed in Malla period, at the time malla kings built so many temples, In nepal there are some Lichchhavi period's temple, one of this is changunarayan, which is located at Bhaktapur. It is perfect and very nice pagoda temple, Where is the second oldest Nepali inscription also over there which is related to the lichchhavi king Mandev I . Shikhara's best example is Krishna temple this is located at Patan, just front of Patan palace, which was built by king Siddhinarshimha Malla. This is the best and very beautiful temple. Stupa's example are Swoyembhunath, Bouddhanath which are big and very beautiful.
